“The bright moon shines over the sea, from far away we share this moment together.” On the 29th September, 2020, the School of International Education held the event of "celebrating National Day and the Mid-Autumn festival". Ms. Chen Yuping, the dean of the School of International Education, and all faculty, international students and Chinese student representatives from the School of Computer Science and the School of Economics and Management attended the activity.

Ms. Chen Yuping, the dean of the School of International Education, launched the event with an opening speech. Dean Chen vividly introduced the origin of the Mid-Autumn Festival, the custom of appreciating the moon and chanting poems, and the ancient legends of goddess Chang’e flying to the moon and Wu Kang chopping down the cassia tree. At the end of the speech, Dean Chen presented a poem of famous poet Shushi to everyone: "May we all be blessed with longevity. Though far apart, we are still able to share the beauty of the moon together”, and wished all students that their life in Chengdu Normal University will become a valuable journey in life.

Activity 1: The knowledge competition about the National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival. The host raises questions, and international students speak out answers in Chinese, the correct answer will win the student a delicate bookmark. International students actively participated in the game in a happy atmosphere, and at the same time, they also acquired cultural knowledge about the National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival.

Activity 2: Making lantern: International students and Chinese students work together to make lanterns. Creative and exquisite lanterns will be rewarded. Everyone got involved in making lanterns, and every lantern has its own features.

During the activities, the foreign and Chinese students made friends with each other. Although there is language barrier, it could not affect students’ enthusiasm. At the end of the activities, everyone took pictures together with their lanterns to commemorate their first National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival at Chengdu Normal University. In line with the purpose of “Communicate with each other and spend the holiday together”, this event provides a good opportunity of learning and cultural exchange between Chinese and foreign students. The activities have not only enhanced the sense of belonging and happiness of international students in Chengdu Normal University, but also helped them develop a more perceptual understanding of the Chinese traditional festivals----the National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival.
