The Department of Political Education was formally established in 1982, based on the Institute of Political Theory Course and the Institute of Marxism-Leninism, jointly with the Teaching Center of Moral and Political Education which was founded in May, 2009.

The department has a total of 25 faculty members, including 3 professors, 8 associate professors, and 10 lecturers. 18 of them have Ph.D. or Master¡¯s degrees. They are well-experienced and enthusiastic in teaching and research, and have received many awards including the Philosophy and Social Science Award of Sichuan Government, and the Zeng Xianzi Teaching Fund Award. Some of the faculty members were given the title of Provincial Advanced Worker of the University for Moral Political Education, Provincial Excellent Instructor, and Excellent Career Advisor, etc. In recent years, the faculty members have published more than 100 academic papers and have undertaken more than 20 provincial, municipal and scholastic research projects. The department has published more than 30 academic books and textbooks. In the meantime, the department continues to broaden its connections and academic exchanges with sister universities at home and abroad, as well as constantly inviting famous scholars to give lectures, some of whom have also been invited as visiting professors. Every year some of the teachers are sent abroad or to domestic universities for advanced studying, lecturing, or attending academic conferences.

Currently, the department offers Undergraduate Programme, Junior College programme and Senior College Programme in the areas of moral and political education, jurisprudence, legal affairs, social work, administrative management and community management, both for senior high school students and adult students. It has 7 secondary entities for teaching & research, including: 3 major teaching and research division, 1 compulsory course teaching and research division, the institute of moral and political education, a moot court lab and a social work lab. The department places emphasises on both academic performance and career development, committed to training students with a high level of professional quality, ethics and research capability. Since 1982, more than 6000 undergraducates and junior college graducates majoring in Political Education have graduated from the department, as well as many pragmatic professionals in other fields. Many of the graduates are playing very important roles in teaching, research and management positions.
