The Department of Mathematics offers one undergraduate programme for Adult Education and two Junior College programmes (3 year). In 1987, it established the Mathematics Major for Adult Education and obtained remarkable achievement in the areas of course construction, faculty resources, teaching conditions and scientific research, laboratory construction, personnel training, ideological and political education and teaching management. In 2002, it started the undergraduate program with full-time study. In order to reach the teaching standard required by the Ministry of Eductaion for the programme, the department has enhanced the course construction year by year and embraces the ideas of ¡°moderate development, improving quality, reflecting characteristics ". Furthermore, it plans for the development of courses with relevant sets of laboratory construction and has adopted a series of interrelated strategies.

At present, the department has 28 full-time faculty members, 12 of whom have Master degrees, 5 are professors, 9 associate professors and 13 lecturers.

Relying on the ¡°national training plan¡±, every year the department recruits a number of famous national and provincial teachers and professors who bring the advanced knowledge and direction of the disciplines¡¯ development from both domestic country and international world for students training and lectures.

The department puts the emphasis of its research on teaching reform and curriculum construction. It has one excellent course named ¡°probability theory and mathematical statistics¡± at the provincial level and one excellent course named ¡°ordinary differential equations¡± at the school level. The department aims to apply the key courses and teaching reform project from department level to school level and to provincial level. At present, there are total 8 teaching reform projects (either from the school or from the province) which have been completed or are in progress by teachers from the department. In the past five years, this department¡¯s teachers have published more than 50 papers in variuos academic journals, 20 more of them are published in the core journals of the country.
